It is the YBOD’s reputation for providing the best racing on the Broads which has attracted many owners to the Class. One of the intentions of the original design in 1908 was to provide close racing and it has lived up to this expectation ever since. Many famous trophies are attached to the class and are avidly contested to this day.Strict One Design values have been applied throughout, which means that success does not follow those with the biggest cheque book.Improvements to the specification are carefully considered by the Class Committee before any changes are permitted. Past and present helms include sailors of the very highest calibre, including Olympic standard as well as National and International Champions of other classes. What is so special is that the quality runs right through the Class, not just the high flyers at the front. You have only to watch the keenness of some of the starts to know that this is serious racing!

Good racing is provided at many clubs and different locations throughout the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, whether as part of regular club racing or at open regattas. The Open Meetings give Class members the chance to visit fresh places and compete against the best helms and crews.
