YBOD Tiger Moth

She is no. 113, built in GRP by Kingsley Farrington. I bought her from the Nancy Oldfield Trust a couple of years ago when they standardised on Yeomans. She came to me named Mottled Willow, which sounded like a tree disease so I renamed her with the class’s approval; to my astonishment the name Tiger Moth was available.
To meet regulations the trust installed a bilge pump, as well as extending the side seating forward by one place, putting a small beading rubbing strake across the transom and raising the gooseneck. I have corrected the last of these but not the others which, although they add weight, put her out of class. The extra seating is very comfortable for the crew so if you’re just looking at cruising she’s lovely. Removal of the seats and beading is a day’s work, the skin fitting for the bilge pump involves curing time so a little longer.
I sail at the Norfolk Punt Club where I am not amongst the ranks of the feared when racing begins so no-one was fussed about her class status, until I spent most of a lap of Barton Broad ahead of the fleet, that is… She goes nicely on all points of sail.
Quite a lot of time and effort has gone into her. I have installed Allen swivel jamming blocks for the jib sheets which take a lot of stress off the crew. I stripped, sanded and re-varnished the floorboards, adding some fine sand in selected places for good surface grip.
I have had Tiger Moth for two winters, out of the water and extensively varnished and although although not urgent I would have done the toe rail again and more if I was not selling her. The sails are in good order although I do not know their age. The running and standing rigging are also good. The antifouling does not, in my opinion, need replacing.
There is no trailer but there is a wheeled yard trolley. A heavy winter cover came with her. However, I made boat covers for 7 years before I retired and her regular cover is a one-piece, over-boom-and-coaming job which I made from some expensive Italian fabric. It weighs about a third of that of a conventional YBOD cover and is every bit as long lasting and more weatherproof. I always took the view that whatever has been done the same way for decades is ripe for being improved upon, so this cover is also very quick and easy to install.
I am selling as we have way too many boats and I have just agreed to take a half share in another White Boat.

YBOD No. 79 “The Old Lady”
Built in 1965 by Herbert Woods.
Decks removed and 2 foredeck beams, 4 side deck beams, king plank, hatch carlings and pin rails replaced in Oak. New marine plywood decks fitted, epoxy sheathed and painted with lino brown two-pack non-slip finish. Cockpit coamings stripped, re-varnished and re-fitted with new Oak corner posts. New varnished mahogany rubbing strakes, toerails and deck cants fitted. All at a cost of over £5000.00.
Not used and stored inside at South River Marine since work completed in 2011.
